This is one end of Iztuzu or Turtle Beach. You can get to the beach by boat or bus. The journey takes about 30 minutes for the equivalent of £2 return. The boat trip takes you through stunning reed beds, you will see kingfishers and all kinds of birds which are very rare in England.
This panorama of Turtle Beach and the Dalyan delta shows the whole length of the 5km beach. You can take a boat to one end and catch a bus back from the other.Turtles lay their eggs here. There are no permanent buildings and you can get drinks and snacks from little grass roofed huts on the beach.
These are the Lycean rock tombs. Across the river from Dalyan is a Roman town - Caunos. In the typical Turkish way it is very much left as it has always been. There are wild tortoises and lots of friendly goats. Olive and fig trees push their way up through the old stones of the amphitheatre and it is amazing to sit and look out to sea as the sun is setting.
This was taken on a jeep safari. It is one of the freezing mountain streams. In some places (Saklikent Gorge being one) you can drink the water as it comes out of the rocks, very refreshing on a hot day! There is an abundance of water in the area, making it lush and green even in the hottest summer.
